Description
Dragon Wing begonias are vigorous cane-type hybrids with glossy, wing-shaped green leaves and cascading clusters of flowers. They suit containers, hanging baskets, and sheltered garden beds, providing a long season of color in warm weather.
Light requirements
Grow in bright filtered light or partial shade. Gentle morning sun is suitable; protect from intense afternoon sun. Provide rich, well-drained soil and room for air circulation.
Soil preferences, including pH and drainage
Begonias prefer well-draining, slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.0. They like rich, fertile soil that retains some moisture but also drains well to prevent root rot. A good potting mix designed for houseplants or a mix of peat, perlite, and compost works well for begonias.
Water needs
Water when the surface begins to dry, keeping the root zone evenly moist without standing water. Water the soil rather than soaking the leaves, and reduce watering during cooler weather. Protect from frost.
