Cape Leadwort 'Imperial Blue'
Binomial name
Plumbago auriculata
Common names
Sky Flower, Blue Plumbago
Light requirements
Plumbago auriculata loves full sun! It thrives in bright, direct sunlight and will reward you with its beautiful blue or white flowers when given plenty of light. It can tolerate light shade, but the blooms are best when it gets full sun. If growing indoors, make sure it gets a sunny spot with plenty of light.
Soil preferences, including pH and drainage
This plant prefers well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0–7.0). It grows well in sandy or loamy soils that drain easily. Be sure the soil doesn’t retain excess moisture, as Plumbago auriculata doesn’t like sitting in waterlogged conditions.
Water needs
Sky Flower enjoys regular watering, but it’s relatively drought-tolerant once established. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, but allow it to dry out a bit between waterings. It does best when the soil stays slightly moist but not soggy. Good drainage is key to its success.
