Light requirements
This striking plant loves the sun! It thrives in bright, direct light, which encourages those iconic, colorful blooms. If you're growing it indoors, place it near a sunny window where it can soak up plenty of light, though it can tolerate a little light shade as well.
Soil preferences, including pH and drainage
Strelitzia prefers well-draining, rich, and slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0–7.5). A well-balanced potting mix with some added perlite or sand for drainage works great. Make sure the soil doesn’t stay soggy, as this plant dislikes waterlogged roots.
Water needs
Water regularly during the growing season when the top inch of soil feels dry. It’s more drought-tolerant once established but still appreciates consistent moisture. Be careful not to overwater, though—good drainage is essential for healthy roots
