Description
The Small Leaf Clusia is a hardy evergreen shrub or small tree that’s perfect for hedges, privacy screens, or ornamental plantings. Its thick, leathery, teardrop-shaped leaves are a glossy green, adding a lush, tropical vibe to any landscape. This low-maintenance plant is also highly salt- and drought-tolerant, making it ideal for coastal or dry climates.
Light requirements
Clusia guttifera thrives in full sun to partial shade. It adapts well to bright light conditions and can handle direct sunlight, which helps maintain its dense growth and vibrant foliage.
Soil preferences, including pH and drainage
This plant prefers well-draining soil but is quite adaptable, tolerating sandy, loamy, or even rocky soils. It does best with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.5–7.5). Adding organic matter can improve soil quality and support healthy growth.
Water needs
The Small Leaf Clusia is drought-tolerant once established, but it appreciates regular watering during its first year to establish a strong root system. Water deeply but allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure good drainage.
