Description
Ilex vomitoria, commonly known as Yaupon Holly, is a native evergreen shrub or small tree found primarily in the southeastern United States. It is well-regarded for its dense foliage and small, glossy, dark green leaves. This species produces small white flowers in spring, followed by red berries in late fall to winter that persist through the colder months, attracting birds. Yaupon Holly is highly adaptable and is often used in landscaping for hedges, privacy screens, or ornamental trees. Its tolerance to a wide range of soil conditions and its ability to thrive in both full sun and partial shade make it a versatile choice for many garden types. Additionally, it is used for its potential medicinal properties, as the leaves of the plant contain caffeine and have historically been used to make a stimulating tea.
Light requirements
