Binomial name

Solandra longiflora

Common names

Chalice Vine, Yellow Bell, Trumpet Flower

Light requirements

Solandra longiflora thrives in full sun! It loves soaking up the sunlight and will produce its stunning, large, yellow flowers when exposed to plenty of bright, direct light. It can tolerate some light shade but does best in a sunny spot. Whether in your garden or a sunny patio, this plant will love all the light it can get.

Soil preferences, including pH and drainage

This vine prefers well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0–7.0). It does best in sandy or loamy soil that drains well. Good drainage is key, as Solandra longiflora doesn’t like its roots sitting in water. Be sure to use a potting mix that allows water to pass through easily to keep the roots healthy.

Water needs

Water this plant regularly, but allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. It enjoys consistent moisture but doesn’t like to be waterlogged. Once established, it’s somewhat drought-tolerant but will bloom better with regular watering during the growing season. Just make sure the soil drains well to avoid root rot.
