Description

Ficus neriifolia is a tropical tree native to parts of Asia, renowned for its sleek, narrow, leathery leaves and its adaptability in both indoor and outdoor settings. Often used as an ornamental tree in gardens, it can grow as a small shrub or develop into a medium-sized tree with proper care. Its attractive foliage provides a dense, lush look that works well as a backdrop for other plants, and it’s sometimes used in bonsai cultivation. This fig tree’s low-maintenance nature and striking appearance make it a favorite in tropical and subtropical gardens.

Light requirements

Ficus neriifolia thrives in bright, indirect light and can tolerate a few hours of direct sunlight, though too much sun may cause its leaves to scorch. Indoors, it does well near a bright window where it can receive filtered sunlight. Too little light will cause the plant to become leggy and less vigorous.

Soil preferences, including pH and drainage

This fig prefers well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0–7.0). A loamy mix with good organic matter works well. It’s important that the soil drains quickly to avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Water needs

Water Ficus neriifolia when the top inch of soil feels dry. While it prefers consistent moisture, it’s crucial not to overwater, as the plant does not like sitting in soggy soil. During the winter months or cooler seasons, reduce watering as the plant's growth slows down.
