Description

Echeveria is a beloved genus of succulents known for its rosette-shaped foliage and stunning variety of colors. From pastel greens and silvers to vibrant pinks and purples, these plants bring a touch of elegance to any indoor or outdoor setting. Their leaves are often waxy or powdery, with a delicate symmetry that makes them highly decorative. Perfect for container gardening, rock gardens, or even sunny windowsills, Echeveria is a low-maintenance plant that thrives with minimal care. In the right conditions, they may reward you with flower stalks adorned with small, bell-shaped blooms in shades of orange, yellow, or red.

Light requirements

Echeveria loves bright light and thrives in full sun to partial shade. Outdoors, place it where it can get at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Indoors, a sunny windowsill with plenty of natural light is ideal. Insufficient light can lead to leggy growth and dull coloration.

Soil preferences, including pH and drainage

These succulents prefer well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH (6.0–7.0). A cactus or succulent mix is ideal, but you can also mix regular potting soil with sand or perlite to improve drainage. Avoid heavy, water-retentive soils.

Water needs

As drought-tolerant plants, Echeveria prefers the "soak and dry" method. Water deeply, then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. Be careful not to let water sit in the rosette, as this can cause rot. Reduce watering during cooler months when the plant's growth slows.
