He wasn’t complaining. Quite the opposite. He was genuinely concerned that I might be underpricing myself.
I didn’t come into horticulture from landscaping. I came into landscaping from systems design.
I’ve spent more than twenty-five years building businesses from graphic design, and transportation to technology and publishing. Learning how to eliminate unnecessary work became second nature long before I ever started selling plants.
Nature rewards efficiency. Just as plants don’t waste energy maintaining leaves they don’t need, I designed our business to avoid unnecessary overhead. As I’ve built Inch by Yard, I’ve tried to borrow that same philosophy.
One of the reasons I started this business is because I believe everyone deserves to experience the joy of gardening. If someone wants to plant a native tree, create habitat for butterflies, or simply fall in love with plants the way I did, price shouldn’t be the first obstacle they encounter.
So I work from my home and pack up your plants in my carport. And instead of maintaining thousands of plants that may or may not sell, we let expert growers do what they do best. Your plants remain in professional care until you specifically choose one.
