Description

Plumeria obtusa is a stunning tropical shrub that’s known for its glossy, dark green leaves and fragrant, white flowers that bloom in clusters. These large, waxy blooms have a delicate, sweet scent, often filling the air with their tropical fragrance, making this plant a favorite in gardens and landscaping. The flowers have a soft, white appearance with a subtle yellow center, which is why it’s sometimes called Bridal Bouquet. This plumeria is slower-growing than other varieties, but its beautiful blooms and elegant shape make it worth the wait.

Light requirements

This plant thrives in full sun, where it can bask in the warmth of the day to produce abundant flowers. It loves sunny spots, requiring at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day to flourish. If planted in partial shade, it will still grow but may not flower as profusely.

Soil preferences, including pH and drainage

Plumeria obtusa prefers well-draining, sandy or loamy soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0). Good drainage is essential, as the plant does not like sitting in waterlogged soil. It can tolerate slightly dry conditions once established, but it does best when the soil retains some moisture while still draining well.

Water needs

Water regularly during the growing season, especially in hot weather, to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Once established, it’s somewhat drought-tolerant, but it will continue to perform better with occasional watering during dry spells. In winter, reduce watering as the plant enters a dormant phase and doesn’t require as much moisture.
